Just curious why everyone leaves them painted black. Like JDM i'm pretty sure your going to post a reply to this, your car has a black carbon hood, correct?

I'm not saying it looks bad or is stupid just curious as to why people leave them black on a white car.

It looks pimp yo! It's not toally black. Plus you don't have to worry about the sun melting away your paint. And it shows that you are serous when you need to save weight by sacrificing looks. Plus its got that cool weave to it. They're so sexy. And why would you want a "stock" looking hood? And you can even park cars on them (read Super Street). Plus to paint it you'd need to risk lightly sanding the clear coat. It'd be a waste when you could just get fiberglass. :???:

i have a graphite wrapped cue stick for pool and the nice weave design looks so incredibly nice. if it were painted it would look like a normal cue or a fiberglass one which would make gettin the graphite kinda pointless.

carbon is dark colored. hence a carbon fiber weaved hood is going to be black. u can paint it if u want to but then some peoeple want to look bling bling, and everyone who sees it will KNOW its CF, and that's why ppl leave it.

i personally think it looks bad ass unpainted.

what's really the point in having a CF hood if you're going to paint it? let me guess weight reduction?? HAHA, NO! nobody cares about the actual weight reduction, they want it for the BLING BLING aspect like Toda was saying. that's why i bought mine. i think CF hoods look good. i like the way carbon fiber looks, especially in the sun!

Acctually I would get oone for the weight reduction because I have 2 more doors than most of you.

im just going to get a carbon hood because its cheaper than if i get a normal one and pay to get it painted and everything. you can get one for like 500 shipped. so why bother with fiberglass ans then paying another 500 to get it painted. but yeah thats the only spot on my car with paint blemishes so im just going carbon fiber.

dude check around some local paint shops. places that do nice custom work have offered to do my hood and engine compartment (if the engine is removed when it is brought in) for around 100 bucks.

okay, cf is cool as shit & all, but man....are you building a show car?? if not, why is the hell would you spend the money on a cf hood, or any other cf part for that matter, just for the "bling bling"?? i wouldn't paint it if i got any carbon pieces for my ride, but i got a black car. any other color i'd prolly paint it, cuz after all....if you don't HAVE to show the other guy your secrets, why would you?

just my $.02

I think CF hood looks good unpainted on certain cars. White and Yellow and dark Red. Other colours kind of look tacky with the dark hood.

I bought mine for wieght reduction.

I'm not sure but isn't for every 100lbs. you shed off your car you lose tenths of a seconds?

yea i guess me and Toda are just ricers because we do it for the Bling-Bling! in all actuallity, you save barely anything with a CF hood alone. but when combined with other weight reduction it does have some practicality. but i doubt your 1/4 times are going to change just by slapping on a CF hood.

I dont know about others, but I would not even think aobut buying a CF hood unless I was into the whole "weight reduction" thing...like taking out the back seats, spare wheel, lighter rims, etc.

I would think most people would buy a CF hood becuase they liked the way it looked. If they didn't, then they would waste their money to buy it and paint it. But there is no reason waste a perfectly good CF hood by painting it. If you want a hood that is painted then buy a fiberglass one. Or you could keep your stock hood.

any weight of the car helps. Thought it might now being if its heave it will give you more traction. I rather take weight off the back of the car. The seats and spare might be a better thing. I dunno, just a thought.

I general CF looks bad ass!! You can have it for show and race and it gives improvments for both events. CF gives mad looks.

Well in reality the black carbon fiber hoods are not painted. Carbon is black and therefore carbon fibers are black. The pattern is the honeycomb insert that is inserted with the carbon fibers which serves as the core material. This is sandwiched together with a matrix material usually some form of epoxy. Itís then compressed and cured in an oven and then bam you have a carbon fiber honeycomb that is 60% lighter.

yeah..mine is black...im not painting shit..the point to having it is so that u save wieght...stock hoods are over 20pds...c/f hoods wieght in at 11pds max..and thats for the street version...mine..a hefty 6 pds. i'll take the 14 pounds...if you dont know that wieght is a major factor and that every pound u can shave off counts..

for me....
CF hood = weight reduction, bling bling.
every pound counts. but if you really want it to match with your car? u can paint it pearl only. The result is u'd still see the cf design+the paint pearl. Yes it has been done.

you shouldn't paint a carbon fiber period. Not only does it look Bling Bling with it being black. But paint actually increases the weight. Hence, why buckets of paint are heavy.
Here's a cheap rice trick. Someone put a carbon fiber sticker on their hood. Now that's Rice. I mean they found a large enough sticker for it. YOu can see where they cut the holes for the washers. They didn't bother to do a rice job right.

plus carbon fiber is like 10 times stronger than fiberglass or your stock hood. you don't have to worry about your dumb fat friends jumping on the hood of your car acting like there funny and making a huge dent in it...

Depends on who made your c/f hood. if you willing to pay $800 for one, u won't be complaining but if you being cheap paying $400 for one, then that isn't a deal really.
Like i said before WANNA PLAY? GOTTA PAY.
