Default PS3 owners might be in serious trouble

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genme...topic=53701429

Quote:
Hey guys, just thought I'd compile some information on the front page for those of you wondering what the hell is going on:

- May/May NOT only affect the older "fat' models.
- Affects systems that haven't even signed online in days.
- Prevents any trophy related games from starting.
- Prevents PSX Classics from starting.
- Reverts PSN Full Downloads back to Demos.
- Turns all downloaded themes into "Corrupted Data", preventing them from being used.
- Reverts your Time/Date back to 12/31/1999.

For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, people have been getting an "8001050F" error over the past hour when trying to do basic PS3 tasks.

It definitely looks like this is affecting only the older "fat" PS3 models right now, but I can't confirm that as fact since we've had a couple reports of slim models having the same issue.

Also, the reason I say that it's affecting systems that haven't been signed online is because we heard from another forum member that he hasn't signed into the Playstation Network in days and his system has suddenly started giving him this error. If that's the case, this can't be server related.

Once we have some more facts though and hopefully some solutions, post them here. And for those of you saying "It's Sony's server, calm down! Christ!", please read above first. This is pretty drastic for simply being unable to connect to the PSN.

I'd like to apologize beforehand if this DOES turn out to be a PSN related issue and is easily fixed within the next few minutes. If that's the case, kutos for putting up with this post
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/28/ps...ashing-errors/

Quote:
A wide rash of game-crashing errors is spreading among the PS3-owning community at the moment, most of which can be chalked up to a 8001050F error code. This has led to a variety of unfortunate side-effects for those affected, including corrupted trophy information and an inability to access the PSN. When combined, those two issues prevent players from launching certain games, such as Heavy Rain, without being kicked back to the XMB.

We've contacted Sony to find out what's causing the issue, and when we can expect to get back to chasing down the Origami Killer. He might just be able to make a clean getaway while we suffer through this downtime.

Update: Sony has acknowledged the issue, and is "looking into it." We've yet to hear an official word on what the problem is, though it seems to be a bit larger than just the PSN. Owners of PS3 Phats are reporting that the date on their console has reverted to 12/31/1999, which is likely the cause of the data-corrupting errors. Some Phat-owners have reported receiving the errors while their console was offline, which is upsetting, to say the least. We'll let you know when we hear official word from Sony.

This is what the US playstation site said until a bit ago...

The official word is that an internal clock error, which is probably related to the comming leap year, has confused a lot of systems into thinking it's 12/01/99. Which invalidates any online purchases (downloaded games or content) and makes trophy data invalid.

Its fixed now. My roommate was saying something about the internal clock trying to read March 1st as February 29th on a leap year or something like that and it got all messed up. Now that the default Greenwich time is now officially March 2nd it wrote its self out and the shit is working. He was able to play his Rockband DLC just 10 minutes ago, so who knows. March 1st might as well have never happened of the ps3.

The PS3 phats (aside from certain 80GB non-BC systems) were affected. It was a leap year bug in the internal clock that corrected itself tonight around 6:30 EST. My slim was not affected, but the 60GB that I used to co-op was.

As RR said, @ 360 users giving Sony shit for this when XBL has been down for weeks at a time in previous years.

The device interface is by far the most streamlined and user friendly to any media server ive used. download movie, drag to xbox 360, watch movie.
