Question Are Subway subs good for you?

I usually partake in a 6" Oven Roasted Chicken Breast sub on Whole Wheat bread without cheese and a bit of fat free honey mustard.

Just wondering if this is a good lunch to eat or should I look for an alternative?

Stats can be found here: http://world.subway.com/Countries/Nu...tionValues.pdf

I usually bring food from home for lunch, but when I eat out, it's a sub 90% of the time.

they are not bad, and considering a 6in vs say a burger meal somewhere, much better for you.

obviously if you made your own, that would probably be most healthiest and possibly cheaper.

IMO, its a better option than a lot of stuff out there.

next time, if they let you, do the veggie with the chicken, you get the most value of feeling full without killing diet

I think they can be pretty healthy if you get the "under 6g of fat or less menu"... frankly speaking though, I think it all really depends on how much and which dressing you put on.

Some of the subs aren't that great though (namely the Italian BMT, which is visibly dripping with grease after it gets toasted).

Ya, I don't eat anything other than the items on the "under 6 grams of fat" menu.

I think in the last 9 months i've only eaten one sub outside of that menu.

The bread is what kills it (and any of their sauces). The bread has most of the calories and carbs in it. Otherwise if you choose lean meats and veggies it's fine. I spring for subway on the weekends when I'm craving otherwise you can build the same at home for cheaper with the same or less carbs/cals.

I've been using these whole wheat thin sandwich things (basically like a deflated roll) with the Oscar Mayer Cold Cuts and turkey pepperoni with Vlasic dilled hot pepper rings, baby spinach leaves, and Miracle Whip.

It's about 250 cals for one sandwich with 15 grams of protein at least and close to the same fat as a subway sub.

The only downfall to pretty much all sandwiches is Sodium if you're concerned about it. I don't monitor my sodium intake (even though I should it's insanely high).

If I do subway I get the turkey and ham 6inch without cheese (I dont like cheese anyway) with mad veggies lettuce and oil/vinegar. It's under 400 cals (b.c of the loss of cheese).

I think it's because there's so much salt in theirs.

i concur.....flat round wheat rolls are money.

at subway i usually get oven roasted chicken or turkey on wheat with honey mustard instead of mayo...its definitely a much healthier choice than any other fast food around.

nothing beats my tuna surprise though for ultimate health

when i was bulking i had at least one 12 inch chicken bacon ranch with everything on it and ranch dressing per day. there was like 55g of protein in that sandwich. now that i think of it thats at least $50 a week for subway lol.

it prolly wasnt healthy but it worked

Ya, like I said, I don't eat this stuff everyday. It's only when I am running late and don't pack a lunch at home. This happens like once every 2-3 weeks. I just want to make sure I am not eating crap.

Lol, after all of this I ended up getting a Chicken Teriyaki meal from Teriyaki Experience.

523 Calories, 2.5g of fat, 34g of protein and 89 carbs.

I can't finish this entire portion. I usually eat about half then eat the rest with something on the side later on.

I've been thinking the same but then I realized I'm fucking lazy and all I want to do after the gym is go home, heat up a Kashi meal or bang out a salad, and sit around with my hands down my pants.

ps where the fuck you been with progress pics?

To answer the title in one word, yes.

To answer with a complete answer we need to know a lot more about your diet. All of the "don't eat anything that isn't on the 6g of fat and under menu" is 100% false. All of the "don't get more than a 6in" is 100% false.

Everyone seems to forget that we need fat in our diet, we need calories to lose weight, and not everyone is the same. We can't answer this with blanket statements. To fully answer this we need to know your goals as they are today, calories per day, what you eat and when you eat throughout your day, etc etc.
