Hey guys new owner of a 1994 Civic DX Coupe. I bought this car for my sister in law and she has just turned 17 and I'm trying to get it on the road for her. My last problem I am having is with the shifter bushings no not the ones under the Gear shift but the ones at the front of the car with the u-joint. this seems to be where all the play is. How do I take the u-joint apart to replace the bushings. It looks like it has been riveted or a press fit bolt. To me it looks like I would have to drill or cut out the old one and replace it with a nut and bolt. Or do I have to replace the whole arm from the gear shift to the transmission. Someone please help I'm under the car now with the laptop LOL

Yeah I read that and about a hundred other posts. Not one of them talks about replacing the bushings at the the U-joint where it connects with the tranny. What I want to know is are the bushings at the tranny end replaceable or do I need to buy a whole new rod from the shifter to the tranny.

I'm guessing your talking about the stabilizer rod. The bolt I think you are talking about should be able to be broken loose. All it is is just a decent size bolt threaded to a welded on nut on the other side of the joint. after broken loose you should be able to take the bushing out and then replace it

No it's not the stabilzer bar it's the actual rod from the gear shift to the tranny that moves the transmission in and out of gear.

Thanks I wanted to say that but I am new here LOL. I found a couple of aftermarket ones but I think I will just let her drive it like this. 200 bucks for a new one is pretty steep and shes not the greatest driver so she might kill this poor coupe fast. I'll see if I can get one from the junkyard in the morning.

Just for the so called noobs in the link in the second post it's the part whre they talk about moving the boot back from the shifter linkage you can just barely see the u joint and the bushing in the second pic.
I am not allowed to post links to pictures as I'm new here. |

I could be wrong but I think your the first one to ever have the joint wear out. Most of us just put the $15.00 bushing kit in and may be a short throw shifter.
On a D16z6 I drive the bitch pin out from the top using a long 3/8 extensions and a 7/32 hex bit. I feed the extensions down by the throttle body. You can get a nice straight shot at the pin.

Yeah I have searched for hours to find out if that part is user replaceable and so far I have only found that arm for sale and even then I only found 3 for sale new. I bought the car last year for my sister in law who was getting her licence on the premise that she pay for the parts well low and behold now she wants the car and has spent all her hard earned money on hair do's and a 300 dollar gucci purse. Go figure . I'm on my way to the u-pull it junk yard they guys giving me one for nothing seeing as how I have spent the better part of 2 weeks there pulling parts. One good find though was a garmin nuvi 265 I found brand new in the box under a seat not even opened. Works beautifully and looks good on my dash. Also found a set of enkei rims 80 bucks with Falken azensis. Rims were horribly curb rashed but i got them sanded down smooth and re painted with flat black and 8 coats of clear and one coat of metalic finish for her new car. one piece Greddy exhaust. 4 lowering springs and an on the fly adjustable suspension. Morosso distributir cap and njk racing wires. Pioneer nav unit stereo with DVD
Total cost 700 for the car and 500 in parts plus alot of headaches. It starts and runs better than my 2004 Se-r Specv |
