I have a 95 civic dx with the 1.5. I bought it primarily to save on gas from driving my truck and also to keep miles off it. Anyways it has 163k on it and it ticks and smokes a little. I did the valve lash and it still ticks. Motor just seems worn and was pretty dirty when the valve cover was off. I am not looking to swap a motor in for performance just basic. I have looked at some jdm d15 and d16 motors on ebay. I am lookiing swap something non vtec in so i dont need an ecm. Also someone here locally told me a non vtec d16 would require a harness change, but the guy at a jdm place said no the non vtec d16 was a direct fit. I am confused on this swap and just looking for input. Lastly how much labor does this usually cost as i know what i will have in parts. A couple of buddies say to do it myself but dont have a lift to make it easy.

find a rebuilt usdm 1.5 and just replace it?
if you get a higher performance motor you will lose some of your mileage...
