Default MTF or ATF

The Honda dealer does not have Honda MTF. Only Honda ATF is available. The service dept. manager says that he uses Honda ATF for all Hondas, whether they are auto or manual.
Should I use Honda ATF in my S2000 or should I look for a quality MTF brand and use it instead?
Keep in mind that we’re dealing in a 3rd World country where there is one Honda dealer with “sole importer rights”. No way I can get Honda MTF until I make a trip to Europe or to the US, and I am not sure airline companies will allow me to carry MTF in my luggage.

have Fedex (or UPS or DHL) ship it in?

otherwise I would try to confirm the Service Department Manger's claim before you fuck up a transmission

I always use honda MTF in mine when doing a tranny flush. After quite a bit of research i decided against other brands due to additives and things like that. ATF and MTF are indeed two different things and shouldnt be used interchangeably, Id take your car somewhere else.

I use GM (AC Delco) Synchromesh Friction Modified Transmission Fluid in my present and prior S2000. Most of my S2000 friends use it as well.

HardtopGuy, a vendor for S2000 parts, will likely be able to ship it to you if you do not have a local GM dealership or part supplier. Be sure to purchase a new sealing washer to install when you change fluid.

Good luck,

Final note. I would not put Honda ATF in my S2000 under any circumstances. It may work with a Civic but the synchros in the S2000 gearbox are unlike any others made by Honda.

The service manager is an idiot. go over to the parts dept. at the dealership and ask them for the MTF. I've never seen a Honda dealership that doesn't carry MTF

This guy is probably ruining cars. Use MTF. ATF and MTF are two different things.
