Thread: Found a GS-R today. What VIN number is it supposed to be ??

  1. #1

    Default Found a GS-R today. What VIN number is it supposed to be ??

    JH4DC238XTS

    That's the start of the VIN number for this '96 GS-R.

    What number, or Letter designates it a real GS-R ??

    Dumb question: Is there a difference between a Type R, and a GS-R ??

    Thanks !!!!

    I don't know that there is a specific reference in the VIN. Do a carfax search and it should tell you right away.

    Do you mean a vin difference, or structural? There are too many structural differences to list them all.

    So the Type R, and a GS-R are totally different cars altogether ??

    I would've guessed that, but I wasn't sure. I don't have access to CarFax either.

    As far as type r and gsr differences- yes, almost completely different cars. Suspension, brakes, chassis re-enforcement, engine, exhaust, etc... all different.

    If you look at the picture of the car I'm interested in, on the drivers side rear, there's an emblem............ What is it ??

  6. #6

    Default

    That would be a bumper sticker. There's never been a Honda (or Acura) emblem in that spot.

    My GSR had a "DOHC VTEC" sticker on the right rear, just under the tail light- but I removed it.

    The number ''23'' in the begginning of VIN number means its a VTEC B18.

    this is taken from Team-Integra.net for a GEN 3 integra

    If you unsure on anything about your Integra, chances are you can find out for sure from your Vehicle Identification Number. This guide is good for the US market 3rd generation Integras, other markets and generations may differ.

    Example VIN
    JH4DB7561WS000001

    Seperate the VIN like so

    JH4-DB7-5-6-1-W-S-000001

    JH4=Honda Motor Co. Ltd. Acura Passenger Vehicle

    DB7 = Body and engine type.
    DB7: 4dr B18B
    DB8: 4dr B18C
    DC4: 2dr B18B
    DC2: 2dr B18C

    5= Body and transmission type
    3: 2dr 5spd
    4: 2dr auto
    5: 4dr 5spd
    6: 4dr auto

    6= Vehicle grade
    1: Type R
    4: RS
    5: LS
    6: GS/SE
    8: GS-R
    9: GS-R w/ leather seats

    1= check digit, disreguard

    W= Model year
    R: 1994
    S: 1995
    T: 1996
    V: 1997
    W: 1998
    X: 1999
    Y: 2000
    1: 2001

    S= Factory Code
    S: Suzuka, Japan

    000001= serial number

    Looking at the example VIN you can tell that the Integra is a 1998 GS 4dr manual made in Suzuka Japan. If you have a different letter for your factory code please let me know as Suzuka is the only plant I know so far assembling Integras.

    I actually like alot of different cars. I like these Integra's, Eclipse GST Spyder's and Eclipse GSX's too. I just sold a 3000GT, and now I'm looking for something different.
    The reason for these additions to my GTS is simple.......... Keep the excess miles off my GTS. Some of my peers really look down at me for driving what they consider "ricer crap" but screw'em, I like'em 'cause they're little screamers.
    It's amazing what these cars can do with 6 less cylinders than my Viper......... Plus one big plus to'em:

    I'll let my wife drive anything but my Viper!!!

    B18B are non VTEC. ex, my LS has a B18B1 engine. a GS-R has a B18C1 and an Integra Type R has a B18C5 engine, which are both VTEC. yes, the 18 means 1.8l

    honestly if you wanna learn about integras i highly reccommend you go to www.Team-Integra.net and register. it's free and you need to be registered to read all the articles. but the articles range from deleting your rear wiper to bleeding your clutch fluid.

    Totally understandable. I can't do the sign thing, but here's TWO pictures of me with some of the members of the Minnesota Viper Club.

    This picture is us at the State Fair grounds last year when Dodge invited us to be on display during their promotional showing of the 2003 vehicles, allowing us to drive the new cars/trucks, and doing the 4x4 course with the Jeeps, and new Dodge Rams !! I'm the guy in the brown tanktop on the left side next to my Blue/White GTS. The one on the right is a 3500 original mile '96 GTS.....very nice, but I like to drive mine !! Sorry about the size of these pics.
    Sorry, Deleted picture 'cause it was too big of a file
    This next picture is of our last cruise together last October along the StCroix River that borders Minn and Wisc. I'm the guy in the Blue sweatshirt next to my GTS, next to the black prowler in the back. The closest Blue/White is a race car, and that guy drives it on the street, Slicks and All !! Needless to say, He's a nut........... Very nice guy though.
    Sorry, Deleted picture 'cause it was too big of a file

    This picture is of me on the starting line at Rockfalls Dragstrip in Wisconsin last September. I should be breaking into the mid 11's this coming year with it.

    Again, Sorry for the BIG pictures. If you want more, I've got lots !!!
    I also give rides to anyone who wants one too, Like I've said, I love to drive it !!
