    Default CTR Camshafts

i was wondering how much horsepower to the wheels CTR camshafts have been known to add to a B16A2 motor. at around what rpm do they stop making power? and do you need to upgrade the B16A2's valve springs if you swap these camshafts in? thanks

theres too many other factors to give u an accurate number (what compression, etc) around 170-185 with some bumped CR and tuning

some people make 200+ whp with stock ITR cams so...it all depends

it'll make power till about 8000 rpm, peak torque a little lower, maybe 7,500

    yeah, use USDM ITR valvesprings

i found a pair of ctr camshafts with 20,000 miles on them for 300 dollars and free shipping. do you think its good deal? and also is there stamping on the camshafts to tell the difference between the intake cam and the exhaust cam?

Why do you need ITR valve springs????
    For the CTR cams?????

    Default question

at what rpm do the stock b16a2 cams stop making power?

Well they got for 300 each new (600 total) so u can be the judge of whether its a good deal or not...u can also find a lot lower mileage cams if u look hard enough

As far as where b16a cams stop making power...I'm not too sure. For a rough estimate, lookup the specs on that motor...and see where peak HP and Peak Tq is...i would imagine with some modification u can shift or modify peak power over a bit but its not really worth it, u were thinking correctly when u were thinking ctr cams.

U would want ITR valvesprings because CTR and ITR cams are almost exactly the same. The exhaust cams are the same, and the intake cam lift is also the same (11.5mm) but the CTR has 243 degrees of duration, while the ITR has 240 degrees of duration.

However, there is some rumor that the 97/98 ITR cams are different from 00/01 cams in that the 00/01 is actually a CTR cam...this was done because of stricter emissions, so they needed to make up the power for it to remain 195 hp on the Type-R.

The last paragraph is rumor, it hasn't really been confirmed, so who knows.

Oh and to tell the difference btween intak and exhaust cams...I don't know. I've never done a cam install...

im sure someone can help u out on that one.

    Default skunk2

on a b16a2, i can get skunk2 stage one cams...would the itr or ctr valve springs and retainers be able to handle the stage one's? and what rpm could i bring my motor without having to worry about destroying or hurting the motor or breaking the springs?

Dude, i told u what they go for new. Figure it out.

personally i'd try to find new or less used cams.

I'm not sure how aggressive these are. Call skunk2, get the specs. ask them

The intake cam has a notch in the end for your distributor drive spindle to locate, the exhaust cam doesn't, simple as that!!!!
You can never have enuff power!!!

I had a great cam post regarding CTR cams that was witty and informative but my PIECE OF WOOD computer crapped out right when i wen tto hit submit. FUCK

Stock b16A cams run out around about 7800 - 8000 RPM. So why do we shift @ 8200 when racing? So you wont drop out of VTEC and get a "lag". The B16A is shit until about 6000 and when racing if you drop out of VTEC (like missing a gear, it results in the same type thing)

Thats why when launching i launch so when the wheels stop spinning im right at the VTEC crossover (5900) on my tach that is off. This gives you a good kick to get out of the torqueless low end.

Skunk2 Stage 1's, Jun 2's, and Toda A's are your other choices to go with if you want a mild cam. All use ITR valvetrain.

toda spec a is a waste of money
    skunk stage 1 is junk

you guys want power???????????? save your money and buy big cams..spec b's..spec c's...jun stage 3...skunk stage 3...they make power.

ctr cams make a little more hp up top then a itr cam...and yes..the 97 98 itr cams are more aggressive then a set of 00 01...

how do u tell what cam is what? by the number of rings on the intake cam.
    ctr/97 98 itr/ one ring

look on www.jdmhondaparts.com for this...they give a detailed pic on how to look for it...

but if you want serious power...start recycling cans like the rest of us :D
