Looking on how to invert mount my subs. I have 2 12's that I want to invert mount. Do I just make the box as I normally would with mdf and instead of mounting the susb regularly I would mount them upside down. Does this affect sound at all? Anything special need to be done with the wiring?

yeah you wire the subs with inverted polarities... the only difference is that the subs don't put any displacement in the box... sound should be the same

you wire the subs with inverted polarities

explain?

You know when you wire the subs + from amp to + on the terminal and - from amp to - on the terminal. The subs moves outward when the bass hits.

If you are running a sealed box when you have an inverted sub then it will just be trapping the waves inside and a weak backwave would be able to escape.

What you have to do is invert the polarities so that the + on the amp goes to the - on the speaker and the - on the amp goes to the + on the speaker so that you have to proper movement.

thanks, definetely printing that out for my dad.

it sometimes can be louder. think the sub its self takes up space in the box, so when you take it out and invert it. the box will be larger. sometimes its louder sometimes its not. most o fthe time you cant tell the diffrence

The larger the box the flatter the response so actually it should be quieter but go deeper. But what? Like 0.1-0.2CF of sub displacement is negligible.

really i would just play around w/ them to find the best setup for you. casue i know if i inverted my subs i wouldnt have a trunk my magnet/ motor
structure is huge

Would this still be the same concept with a ported box? Because i might be interested in doing this for my dd sub.

.1-.2 is negligible? I doubt that... I gained 5dB from inverting my old subs from being mounted normal.. and running the same power.. (well, maybe in special circumstances... I went from 4.0 to 4.25 cu ft)

no.. it wouldn't be the same concept as a ported box... it would act just as if you made the box larger in the first place... the motor structure (matnet, VC, cone, etc) take up space within the box which figures for displacement) the port actually turns your backwave to increase pressure coming out of the box instead of being sealed within the box. your'e just freeing it up. depending on what your tuning frequency is with the box, your rear wave will act differently.

Anyobne got a diagram, because I can picture what inverted subs would look like but anyone got any pictures or diagrams, even if they have been in made in MS paint and are black and white....

Well with my back wave acting differently will it sound any better or worse, and if i want to invert a sub which is designed for a ported box then how should i make the box different so it will sound good.

well, the ported box was prolly designed to work with the subs displacement calculated in. if you invert the sub, you'll make the box larger, and you're tuning frequency will be a tiny bit lower, if only by a few hz..

sound good? depends on how you define "good" play with different designs, different tuning frequencies, and go with what sounds the best to you

yeah, no one will be able to say exactly how to tune your speaker setup to make it sound "best". if that were possible, it wouldnt be necessary to make things tunable. youre just gonna have to play with it and hope you dont break anything in the process :D .
