the r1 is 1000 cc and the r6 is 600
r1's are nuts....
and a gixer 750 would be a lot of buike for a guy your size.... a 600 would probably do you perfectly

the major difference between the r1 and r6 is the r1 is heavier (not by much 30-40lbs or something) and is 998cc and the r6 599cc. r1 has a solid tail light, not two like the r6. the r1 also has a shift tach, which is kinda cool. the r6 has a shorter bore and stroke so she can redline at 15,500rpm while the r1 is like 11,500rpm or so. r1 has more low end torque, while the r6 has it higher up. nonetheless, the r6 can still pull a wheelie just by crankin the throttle
the r1 is no doubt a faster bike, but not by much.. on a race track, the r6 could hold its own against an r1.. the r1 would pull a lil on the straights.
i would go for the r6, thats what im getting next spring. i wanna wait and see what the 2003 models are like, and i hope they dont cost anymore than this years models.
i dunno much about any other bikes, like suzukis and hondas.. i think they are nice, but i just love the style of the yamahas. i really love the yellow cbrs tho

Yo, get a 750 minimally. Don't listen to these guys and get a 600, you will regret it. You will outgrow it within a couple months. Trust me. Your a big guy, so a 750 is about the right size. Just make sure you stay out of the throttle for a week or 2. Then have fun, but be careful. Me an my buddies started with 500 because we thought that would be good enough, 3 weeks later we were like, MORE POWER!! A 600 is fine for me because I'm a light guy, 150lbs. But those extra 60lbs make a huge difference.
the r1 would be close to double the power of the r6............. am i right?The R1 is 400cc bigger ( R6 - 600cc ...R1-1000cc)

GSX750R, a nice bike and you will be running high 10's with it. But if you really want to get crazy a Gixxer 1300 is the ultimate bike

a gsx 750 is a 10 sec bike stock?
indeed...and dip, as for the size of bike.. 750 is not noticeably bigger than the 600. crotch rockets aren't made for really tall people, so unless ur willing to invest in a busa, a 600 suit you well...
