Hey guys, I just brought an 2003 CL type-s. I'm a bit disappointed that there isnt much aftermarket stuff for it. I'm even more disappointed that there isnt much talk about it on forums here.
CL-S and TL-S owners, talk to me!!!
How are your gas mileages by the way? I'm getting right around 21 mpg. Is that low? I do about half highway and half city driving.
I'm also looking for a good intake for it. I know Injen makes one, how are they?

Congrats on the purchase. This part of the forum is pretty much dead. I post on Acurazine.com, that forum is real active. As for the mileage, that sounds about right. I get 25mpg but I have a TL-p (330-350 miles to the tank).
A injen CAI or AEM CAI would be good choices, but I would go with the Comptech Icebox. Its proven to give the best increase in HP, and isn't as loud as the other intakes (gives a slight roar when in WOT).

acurazine is the spot if you drive a tsx, tl, cl, rl, or mdx. :thumrigh:

Comptech- they are an aftermarket company that deals only with honda/acura
Comptech icebox- is a cold air intake system
I have the comptech icebox on my tsx, and i like it because it definately improved the throttle response, but it didnt make my car that loud.
Comptech also has suspension kits, superchargers, brakes, headers, and exhaust for your car.
Check out comptech here www.comptechusa.com
Go right to the Comptech products specifically for the CL type S here http://www.comptechusa.com/store/cl.html
Injen intakes are good, i think they make the RD series for your car. Its a two piece-you can convert it from short ram to cold air.

Thanks guys for the replies. You're right, Acurazine is real active and very helpful too. I have since replaced my ac cabin air filters and learned alot more about CAIs and quirks of the CL-S.
So the Comptech Ice box is the way to go eh? I've seen the construction of it, it is so similar to the stock air intake. The only difference i see is that it probably draws air from a slightly lower point and the filter is a cone and thus has a much larger surface area.
I would like to have a intake that is loud. How was the install by the way? Was is hard? Did you have to jack the car up?
Also, I just brought a K&N replacement air filter. In general, how long does it take for the ECU to adjust for the filter or any other type of intake? In conjunction, if I disconnect the battery to reset the ECU will that screw up the other systems? Like would the navigation reset and ask for the passcode or anything like that?
TIA

As far as the icebox goes- to install it- you remove the resonator and then attacth the icebox snorkel to the bottom of your stock airbox. then replace the stock airbox cover with the icebox cover- wich is alot larger and can draw more air.
you also use a new filter that is supplied.
If you want an intake that is loud go for a cold air setup like INjen, or Aem. YOu can even buy a cheap-o system from ebay, just remember to discard the crappy filter that comes with it, and attach a k&n to the end of the bad boy.
As far as the installation, its very easy. if you can use a screwdriver and a wrench, you can do it! It is not neccessary to jack the car up, although on some cars, it is alot easier to get the resonator out if you take the wheel off.
The ecu does not need to reset itself after you change the airfilter. When you change the filter, your not disconnecting the battery, or any fuses. If you disconnect the battery, or pull the Ecu fuse, it will take a short drive or two for it to adjust.
If you have the navigation system, it will most definately ask you for the passcode when you reconnect the battery. You will probably need the raido code also. Usually these are printed on little card somewhere in your owners manual. If you cannot find it anywhere, your gonna have to call acura. Also, make sure that your car is parked outside when you reconnect the battery and enter the navi code, because the car needs to recreate the satellite link. if you are parked inside a garage, it wont work.

I have been reading that it takes some time for the ECU to adjust to mods that you make to the car (i.e. CAI, headers, etc...). So before you ECU adjusts, you wont see as much of the gains from the mods as you would after it adjusts. I was just wondering wat that length of time actually is. Actually, after digging through Acurazine, people are sayin its like 2-3 days.
Also, if you disconnect the battery or find some other way to reset the ECU, that adjustment is much faster. Or so I've read.
Wait, so do you have a CL-S? What is the resonator?

it doesnt take 2-3 days, i can assure you of that.
you said before the ecu adjusts you wont see as much gains from the mods as you would after it adjusts. it doesnt take that long to adjust dude..when you plug the battery back in it may idle a lil rough, or you might have some throttle hesitation which is normal..like i said before, go for a nice 10-20 mile ride, come home, park- go oout later again, it should be all set.
when i did mine, my car was idling rough for like 2 minutes, i went to get on the gas, it bogged out for a second.
by the time i hit the highway, everything felt perfectly normal.
Also, if you disconnect the battery or find some other way to reset the ECU, that adjustment is much faster. Or so I've read.
the only way to reset it is if you disconnect the battery, and or pull the fuse. when u install new mods to the car, your doing that anyway.
so what would it be much faster than? there are no other options..if you are install your intake, and dont disconnect the battery, the ecu is not gonna reset itself just because you put an intake in..it may adjust itself to compensate for higher airflow, but you wont notice a thing.
the resonator is the part that makes the intake quiet, and restricts the airflow to the airbox
the reason why you get more throttle response from the intake is partly because your removing the most restricting piece of the whole system, the resonator.
you sound like you are a lil new to the whole car thing, so i dont reccomend doing the install yourself unless you have help from someone more mechanically inclined.
where are you located btw?
